Every day is worth celebrating—whether it’s National Puppy Day in March, Avocado Day in July…or even Ugly Christmas Sweater Day in December. But here in the Beehive state, we have something extra special…for book lovers.
Thanks to Governor Spencer J. Cox, the first Saturday in December has officially been declared as Utah Authors’ Day! This special day is all about connecting local authors with the heart of their communities—YOU—the readers—by featuring writers in libraries and bookstores across the state.
This year, I was honored to be placed in the beautiful Ogden Valley Branch library. It’s a hidden gem tucked away up in the quaint town of Huntsville. This charming library is a multi-function facility with an auditorium, presentation rooms and even houses an art gallery.
I had the privilege of leading a small, interactive workshop on how to craft a story. Over the past ten years, I’ve presented variations of this workshop to high school, middle school, and elementary students, as well as to senior centers, homeschool groups, church youth gatherings, and family parties. No matter the age or setting, it’s always a joy to watch the creative process unfold among storytellers from various backgrounds. This one was especially special because of the wonderful and creative guests who joined me!
“I’ve read one of Tara’s books and was looking forward to interacting with her. She was awesome. We had ages 69 to 7 years old, and we all were participating…Tara provided an opportunity to learn and have fun. It was great!!!”
—Mary Ann Curtis, Weber County Library Attendee, Utah Authors’ Day
A huge thank you to Governor Cox for recognizing and celebrating local authors and the power of storytelling. This special day reminds us how literature brings people together, sparks imaginations, and strengthens our communities.
Next year at this wonderful celebration, I hope to interact with even more readers, writers, and book lovers. Until then, happy reading, and thank you for supporting local authors!
